The CISTI Mobile website is now in production! You can access the mobile site at the following locations:

CISTI Mobile is a website suited to modern smartphone and mobile device screens such as iPhone, Android and Blackberry type devices. As such, the site is best viewed using a smartphone device, and not via a regular desktop browser.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first mobile website for a federal government library in Canada.

We have attempted to remain consistent with the spirit of the Common Look and Feel and accessibility policies for Canadian Government websites. The mobile website is bilingual, and displays the Canada wordmark, and is adapted to follow the best practices for mobile development.

Features

The mobile websites brings many of the information discovery abilities of CISTI to your smartphone.

  • Allows searching of CISTI's local catalogue and information sources, as well as many science and technology publications around the world.
  • Retrieving full text to your device.
  • Ordering documents.
  • Employees of the NRC can login with their CISTI accounts to access more and license restricted information sources including Market Research Reports, and publisher content.
  • Provides maps and directions to NRC-CISTI locations.
  • Contact CISTI via a form, or by placing a call directly to your local branch.
  • Follow CISTI on Twitter or Facebook.
  • Access the full CISTI website.

Technologies

  • The mobile website makes extensive use of JQuery Mobile.
  • The Metalib X-server API provides federated searching capabilities in format suitable for mobile devices.
  • Our SFX link resolver is used to provide links to full text documents, ordering, and other citation services. It has been augmented to present results in a manner more suited for mobile devices.
  • Our EZProxy http proxy server is used to provide NRC Staff with better access to licensed content than would otherwise be possible.
  • Our internal authentication system will be augmented to present requests for usernames/passwords in a manner more suited to mobile devices.
  • QR codes have been generated, that allow devices with appropriate software to link from the QR barcode direct to the mobile website. These codes are displayed on the main CISTI website, and at our information desks across the country.

We continue to work to improve the site, and welcome any comments and suggestions. Please contact Stephen Anthony for more information.
